Anticoagulant Monitoring and Near-patient Testing
People on anticoagulants such as Warfarin, or other drugs, which need regular blood monitoring, can attend the surgery for blood tests and monitoring you will be notified if this applies to you.
Antenatal Clinic (with midwife)
Thursday 09:00 – 13:00 at Pen-y-Cae Surgery. The community midwife runs this and the doctor is available for consultation. You can discuss all aspects of your maternity care. The midwife is based at Ysbwty Aneurin Bevan Hospital and can be contacted on 01495 363308.
Asthma Clinic
We aim to improve control of asthma symptoms, to provide education and encourage self-management for patients with asthma. Appointments are offered to all patients who need regular treatment for asthma.
Child Health Surveillance Clinic /Baby Clinic
Child Health Surveillance clinics are held with a G.P on Thursdays 15:00 – 16:00 at the GP practice, and are by appointment only. The Health Visitors are available for consultation for general advice about babies and young children at baby clinic held on alternate Tuesdays 10:00 – 12:00 in the baby clinic area of the Health Centre.
Childhood Immunisations
You will be invited to bring your babies and pre-school children for immunisations which are carried out by Pen-y-Cae Surgery practice nurses on Tuesday mornings by appointment. This is not a "drop-in" clinic

Diabetic Clinic
We aim to achieve good control of diabetes and prevent complications, by providing regular checkups and education. Appointments will be offered to all patients with diabetes. The clinics are run by our practice nurses who have training in diabetes.
Family Planning
Contraceptive advice is freely available from the doctor / nurse for all patients. The community family planning clinic is held at Ysbwty Aneurin Bevan Hospital Wednesday’s 09:30 – 14:30 and Fridays 09:30 – 16:00 NO appointment needed.

Heart Disease Clinic
Appointments will be offered to all patients who have angina or who have had a heart attack or stroke, who have heart failure, or who are at high risk of developing heart disease. The aim is to review the condition and treatment, and lower risk factors in order to prevent further illness.
Health Checks
General health checks are undertaken to all patients when they register with the practice. We also offer checks to patients aged 16 - 75 who have not attended the surgery within the past 3 years.
All people aged over 75 will be offered an annual health check.
Minor Surgery Clinic
A range of minor operations can be performed by the doctor at the practice.

Alcohol
Advice is available on keeping alcohol intake within safe limits. We also work with the Community Alcohol Service in Gwent who can offer a range of services to those who have a problem with their alcohol intake.
Diet & Exercise
Help on diet and losing weight is available from the practice nurses. Exercise is an excellent way to aid weight loss and achieve fitness.
We can arrange referral for an exercise programme at dedicated centres.
